your very own tube seats

"we are now travelling through baker street. as you can see baker street is closed. it would have been nice if they had actually told me, so I could tell you earlier, but no, they don't think about things like that."
- announcement once made to passengers by london underground train driver

fancy a go at redesigning the tube seats? well, here's your chance. transport for london and london underground have just launched a competition, open to both professional as well as non-professional designers, to create a print for the new fabric or "moquette". the winning design will first launch on the piccadilly line in 2012 and gradually roll-out across the entire system after that, to be seen by over three million users every day. entrants may submit up to two textile designs using colours that respond well to both natural and artificial light, with a pattern that takes into consideration wear and tear. the winner will receive a design fee of gbp5,000 which includes copyright purchase. with a closing date of next monday (17:00 gmt), you'll really have to get cracking.
